Posted on Mar 09, 2010

A Southold car accident leaves one man dead and another injured when the car they were traveling in strikes a utility pole after making an attempt to avoid a deer. The incident took place at approximately 4:00 AM on Saturday morning, February 27, 2010, on North Road just east of Boisseau Avenue.

According to Southold Police, Terrence Lawrence, 29, of Greenport, was driving a 1999 Infiniti along North Road when he swerved in order to avoid a deer. He reportedly lost control of his car, left the roadway and slammed into a utility pole.

Rescue crews transported Lawrence to Peconic Bay Medical Center where he was treated for injuries sustained in the accident. Fortunately, he only suffered minor injures.

However, Lawrence’s passenger did not fair so well. Corey Freeman, 23, also of Greenport, was transported to Eastern Long Island Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The fatal Southold auto accident is still under investigation by local authorities. According to police, no criminal charges are pending.

This is a tragic and unfortunate accident. We extend our thoughts and condolences to those who have been affected by Mr. Freeman’s untimely death. We would also like to wish Mr. Lawrence a speedy recovery during this difficult time.
