If you own a Graco stroller, you need to find out if it was included in a massive nationwide recall. Recently, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) in cooperation with Graco Children’s Products, Inc., announced a recall of almost 1.5 million strollers. This recall was prompted after reports of five fingertip amputations caused by this product.
According to the CPSC, there have been seven reports of children placing their fingers in the canopy hinge mechanism while the strollers were being opened or closed. Because of a defect, there were multiple fingertip amputations and two lacerations.
The massive recall includes the Graco Alano, Passage and Spree travel systems and strollers. There are many different model numbers that are affected. To view the list of model numbers, visit http://www.gracobaby.com/SafetyAndRecall/. The model number can be found on the lower inside area of the rear frame, close to the rear wheels.
Please note that not all the strollers are included in the Graco recall. Based on the press release by the CPSC, the strollers and travel systems involved have plastic, jointed hinge mechanisms with indented canopy positioning notches.
These Graco strollers were manufactured from October 2004 through February 2008 and sold at retail locations across the country.
If you have one of these recalled travel systems or strollers, contact Graco at (800) 345-4109 to order a free protective cover repair kit.
